With Apple's announcement yesterday that it has once again pushed back the launch of the white iPhone 4, this time to next spring, speculation about the reasons for the ongoing delays has continued to run rampant. Previous reports had claimed that either color consistency issues or problems with the device's backlight leaking out around and/or through the white body of the device were responsible for the delay.

Cult of Mac now reports, however, that the problem is actually light leaking into the iPhone and affecting the performance of the device's camera.
The white iPhone 4 can't take accurate photographs. The handset's semi-translucent glass case leaks light in, ruining pictures taken with the internal camera, especially when the built-in flash is used.

"You don't get accurate pictures on the white iPhone because of the color of the glass back. It washes out the pictures," said a source with connections to Apple who asked to remain anonymous.

The source said Apple has been struggling to isolate the camera sensor. The problem may demand a complete redesign, they said, hence the string of delays.

According to the report, the issue was only discovered at the last minute at a testing facility Apple had set up for case manufacturers to ensure the compatibility of their products with the new device.

Save You Shsh now

The Firmware Umbrella

3GS / 3G Users - DO NOT USE TINYUMBRELLA
in an attempt to save your baseband. It will not work.
The baseband protection is for iPhone 4 *ONLY*.

TinyUmbrella 4.1.8 released

New UI and tons of new features

After months of work I've finished the UI rewrite of TinyUmbrella.
I've added quite a few things to this little app.
It's definitely come a long way and I want to thank all of you for making it the success it's become.

Here are some new features in 4.1.8:

Totally redesigned UI for all platforms (inspired by chpwn refined by me)
Original artwork by iOPK of Chronic Dev Team
Spinny Icon code (thanks to technomage)
Quaqua look and feel (sorry mac only due to license restrictions)
Much cleaner look and feel all around

Known Devices! - Now all devices detected by TinyUmbrella are saved for future use!
You can remove them as well (Right click -> delete from history)
You can save SHSH with known devices as well
(No more requirement for the device to be connected)

Recovery Devices If you connect a device in recovery mode
you can still kick it out of recovery (Right click -> Kick out of recovery)

Save SHSH now saves ALL SHSHs available at Cydia with one button press!

Preferences Change SHSH save directory

Proxies (Web and Socks) for those that need them!

Better port 80 detection.

I hope this release helps you obtain and keep your SHSH's locally.
In the future I plan on adding activation and restores sans iTunes.
(These are both HUGE in terms of development effort so bear with me).

I'm working on a troubleshooting guide that I will have posted in the Quick Links section.

please note that although FolderEnhancer has been updated its still NOT compatible with 4.1
With the release of iOS 4.1.1 or even 4.2 right around the corner, it would be a wise thing to do to save your iPhone iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs either on Cydia, or locally with TinyUmbrella. Saving your SHSH blobs will be helpful if you ever want to downgrade your iPhone to previous firmware version.
The day of tomorrow will be quite important and significant because, as you well know, will be finally released a new tool for the IOS Jailbreak 4.1 on the latest devices. One of the most important things to do about saving the SHSH certificate for a future downgrade if Apple would make available an upgrade to IOS.
iBoot and bootrom are based on same code, and geohot says newer iBoots show his hole fixed (so next bootrom will be fixed too)
We just gave you the bad news that there won’t be an iPhone 3GS iOS 4.1 jailbreak, and unfortunately, we have more bad news, especially for unlockers. According to iPhone hacker Veence, there will not be an unlock for any baseband on iOS 4.1.

So why is that? I’ve got my ideas…

I believe the Dev Team is currently working on an unlock for the basebands mentioned in the above tweet. I also believe they are close to completion. Knowing that iOS 4.2 is just around the corner, it would be a bad move to reveal their exploit to Apple now, which would leave them enough time to patch it in iOS 4.2.

So what can you do? If you haven’t updated to iOS 4.1 yet, you will be able to use PwnageTool soon to update to iOS 4.1 while preserving your baseband. After that, you’ll be able to download UltraSn0w from Cydia to unlock your iPhone.

If on the other end you have already updated to iOS 4.1, then there is no going back as it is currently impossible to downgrade the baseband.

Bummed out?

apple tv, Dev, iphone 4, iphone dev team, Jailbreak, tool

Yesterday posixninja a member of the Chronic dev team announced that their jailbreak tool GreenPois0n would be released on Oct. 10th. With that simple ETA given the twittosphere blew up with questions yet to be answered.

Listed below are the answers to all your questions regarding unlocking, jailbreaking, device compatability with the new Greenpois0n jailbreaking tool:

Q: Will this jailbreak all i-devices?
A: No it will not, Greenpois0n will only jalbreak the latest generation of i-devices (ipod touch 4, iphone 4, ipad, Apple Tv)
Q: Will this unlock the iphone 4?
A: No this is only a jailbreak, you must stay on firmware 4.0.1 if you want to retain your unlock and wait until the iphone dev team releases pwnagetool to update and preserve your baseband or until a different way to unlock comes.
Q: Is this a tethered jailbreak or untethered?
A: With the help oc comex and another userland exploit it will be an untethered jalbreak only after doing a little extra work.
Q:Will this hacktivate my i-device (get it past the connect to itunes screen)?
A: Yes it supports hactivation meaning you don’t need an official sim card to activate the i-device.
Q:What about us older i-device owners why don’t we have a jailbreak (ipod touch 3g, iphone 3gs new bootrom)?
A: Unfortunately the SHAtter exploit the Greenpois0n jailbreak uses only works on newer i-devices as the exploit is based on the new A4 chip. Those with an older i-device are going to have to wait and see if the upcoming dev team jailbreak tools work with your device.
