Pod2g Urges Apple to Release iOS 6.1

Pod2g has chimed in to a series of tweets from jailbreak developers that suggests a publicly releasable jailbreak has been found but is just waiting for the release of iOS 6.1.

Yesterday, we reported that planetbeing had said, "Tons of progress the last few days. I think the future is looking bright for jailbreaking. :)"


This is the strongest evidence yet that the devs have found a jailbreak that can now be released to the public but are still waiting for the release of iOS 6.1 so as not to burn an exploit. There would be no point in releasing a jailbreak at this time for a firmware version that will be updated in just a few days.

Apple releases iOS 6.1 beta 1 to developers

Apple has released iOS 6.1 beta 1 for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It's available to paid developers via developer.apple.com and carries build number 10B5095f. The iPhone version is over 1GB, so plan your bandwidth accordingly.

Speaking of iPhone versions, the iPhone 5 versions are listed by model number, so make sure to check Apple's iPhone 5 model number page to make sure you grab the right one.

Also, if you have a new iPhone 5, or you're getting a new iPad 4 or iPad mini, make sure you add the UDIDs to Apple's developer portal before you update (or you'll have to dig through Xcode, system profiler, or third-party deployment tools to find it.)

Apple Sends Out Media Invites For Special Event On October 23rd

Apple has begun prepping the California Theatre for the upcoming media event where they are expected to reveal the iPad mini.

Techie Buzz has posted the photos of the theatre in San Jose where Apple will host the event. Apparently, Apple has not used this location to host events since the 2004/2005 iPod events.

Along with the iPad mini, Apple Apple is expected to launch new iMacs, Mac minis and the 13" Retina MacBook Pro.

  The event kicks off on Tuesday, October 23rd at 10 AM Pacific / 1 PM Eastern.

Apple to Stream Live Video of 'iPad Mini' Media Event to Apple TV

Apple TV, with the company revealing that it will be streaming today's media event live. 

 It is unclear if the video stream will be available through other means such as on apple.com, but Apple will presumably be updating its site with more information if it is indeed planned to be viewable through it.

 Apple has offered live video streams of its events several times in the past, but has not done so in several years until today. The most recent for which Apple provided a live video stream prior to today was its "Back to the Mac" event in October 2010.
