iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Expected To Go Live Tomorrow Morning

We’ve been waiting a long time for Pod2g and his team to release the untethered jailbreak for devices running iOS 5.1.1, but that wait could soon be over. It was already confirmed earlier this week that Absinthe 2.0 was just a matter of days away, sparking speculation that hackers will pull a “one more thing” announcement on the last day of this week’s “Hack in the Box” conference in Amsterdam.

According to the event’s official Twitter feed, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

The Hack in the Box conference is now selling special one-day passes for tomorrow’s event at €699 (approx. $878) each. They’re not cheap, but they will give you the opportunity to witness ”JAILBREAK LIVE,” hosted by Pod2g and his team. This is when that long-awaited jailbreak is expected to make its debut.

iDownloadBlog has taken a look at the event’s schedule and estimated that the Absinthe 2.0 software will be released tomorrow morning:

Since Amsterdam is 6 hours ahead of EST, and each day of the conference appears to be between 09:00~ and 18:00~ hours local time, the earliest we would see a release is at 3AM EST on Friday, May 25th. [...]

This means the Corona event will start at 5:30AM EST on Friday, May 25th, and the Absinthe event will follow shortly thereafter at 7:00 AM EST. It’s very possible that the jailbreak will be released sometime within that ballpark window. Basically, I’d definitely keep my eyes peeled on Friday morning if I were you.

What’s interesting about the agenda is that it mentions iOS 5.0.1 in both event descriptions — not iOS 5.1.1. We’re hoping that this is simply a typo, and that these events won’t be focused on the last previous jailbreak release.

Pod2g has announced the successful untethered jailbreak of the iPad 3 on iOS 5.1. Up next, he will try to jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1

Hey. iPad 3,1 running iOS 5.1 untethered. Next on the list: stabilizing the payload, then trying 5.1.1.

If it works on iPad 3 and iPhone 4, I can say it'll work on any device. The ATV3 may be out tho :/

Last week, pod2g announced that he had performed an untethered jailbreak of the iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1. We still haven't received any confirmation that his exploits will work on iOS 5.1.1; although, @pimskeks said his 'exploits are still good on 5.1.1' which is a good sign.

Should hackers wait for iOS 6 to release the next jailbreak?

Pod2g has just put up quite the interesting poll on his personal blog. The infamous hacker, who is responsible for a majority of the recent exploits found in iOS, is asking folks to vote on the following question: “Shall we hold off the jailbreak for iOS 6?”

The question comes just a few days after we heard that hackers were finally making some progress on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. Of course, if it’s released before iOS 6 comes out, the exploits will almost certainly be patched up in the new software…

This would mean that pod2g, and members of the Chronic Dev and Dev Teams helping with the jailbreak, would essentially have to start all over again when iOS 6 is released. And if Apple debuts the software at WWDC, that’s just a little over a month away.

So, should hackers continue work on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak and release it as soon as it’s done? Or, since 5.1 isn’t much of an upgrade from 5.0.1, should they wait for iOS 6? Well over 45,000 voters have turned out to answer the question. And here are the results.

56% of folks think that pod2g and team should release the iOS 5.1 jailbreak as soon as possible. 40% believe that the hackers should hold off until iOS 6 is released. And, well, 2% picked the irrelative “Where’s my bottle of beer?” answer.

The poll is still up, and will be for the next 6 days. And its results will hold major weight in the decision of when to release the next jailbreak. I guess since the decision affects a whole community of people, it’s only right that you gather everyone’s input.

Which answer do you choose? And why?
